OJODU VOCATIONAL SKILLS TRAINING

The Chairman of Ojodu LCDA, Hon. Segun Odunmbaku today hosted People Living With Disabilities ( PWDs) from Ojodu at the council secretariat in Oke Ira, Ogba. The meeting was attended by all clusters of PWDs who appreciated the Chairman for his inclusive policies and responsiveness to issues of PWDs.
The Representative Of Joint National Association Of People With Disabilities (JONAPWDS), Dr Adebukola Adebayo explained that as an umbrella body coordinating affairs of PWDs in Ojodu, there are some collaborative programmes like workshops on sexual reproductive health for PWDs set to happen alongside development partners like Ojodu LCDA.
The group also requested for representation of PWDs in the government’s decision making process, with an office or unit while officials are appointed at cabinet level to handle disability issues. He also requested for legislation and framework to align policy making and it’s implementation which he is willing to support technically for sustainable empowerment and development of PWDs.
The Council Mayor while welcoming the special people emphasized their strength in unity within the community and also appreciated the exploits of the head of JONAPWDS who is an Ojodu resident. He gave assurance on his administration’s policy on sustainability and willingness to add value to lives of residents particularly PWDs.
Hon. Odunmbaku promised to appoint two SSAs in the soon to be established office on PWDs, liase with the legislative branch to kickstart framework policy on PWDs while speaking on how crucial empowerment is to vulnerable and disabled people and with a compassionate government, it’s imperative that the PWDs are beneficiaries of empowerments.
He agreed on the need for a proper database in dealing with issues of PWDs to aid planning and implementation of empowering them.
He also promised to give slots to PWDs in ongoing empowerment programmes like POS machine distribution while recieving accolades from PWD representatives led by Dr Oluwatoyin Arolake, Mr Falade Abayomi, Mr Abbas Omotosho and Abdul Wakeel Adisa.
