The local government is constitutionally governed by the executive chairman and councilors from the six wards who are elected by the people of Ojodu and its environ according to the 1999 Nigeria constitution supported by the Independent national Electoral law. In the absence of the chairman, the governor is allowed to appoint an administrator to oversee the day to to day affair of the local council. The councilors are the legislative arm of the local government.
Meanwhile, supervising councilors are appointed to work in alliance with the principal officers.
